Time For A Chain...

an Irish Chain that is.....and a Double Irish Chain at that! This is the one item that has been consuming all my sewing time lately. Emily picked out this pattern and fabric about two years ago. At that time I worked on it long enough to get all the strips cut out and a couple sewn up. Then I got bored with it and stuck it in my sewing basket, where over the past few years it worked its way down to the very bottom.

But then....a few weeks ago...I pulled it out, felt sorry for its unused potential, and frantically started working on it again. As of today, I have the top completely finished. Yesterday, while out and about, I picked up the backing fabric and the batting (100% cotton....the only way to go). So now the task awaits me to make the "quilt sandwich". Then I'll be off and quilting.....machine quilting that is. At this season of my life, I machine quilt all the quilts I make. It is faster to complete and holds up well when washing and drying (which can be quite often in a home with young children).

And now that I am closer to finishing it, I was thinking that I would love to make one for Elisabeth using the same pattern but different fabrics. The girls share a bedroom and I think the quilts would look so sweet in their room on their twin beds. This green/white one for Emily and maybe a pink/white one for Elisabeth. Ok, now it's back to the chain gang for me........

Wow, you did such a nice job on this...I really like it! Congratulations on finishing the top...I know how hard it is to get to that stage!

Your quilt top looks great. I know that took a lot of work hunched over piecing so the lines are straight. I like the colors as well. Have fun with your quilt sandwich!
