More Hat Knitting - 31 Days of Creating...

I have really enjoyed knitting lately. I appreciate the repetitive and soothing nature of it. When the days are busy I look forward to squeezing in time to knit in the evenings. And I love that these hats work up so quickly!

Knitted Hat in Progress - 31 Days of Creating...

Happy Sunday!!! I hope you’ve had a blessed Lord’s Day!!! I’m knitting on this hat while my daughter plays hymns on the piano for us.  I have knit many hats over the years and I’m really enjoying this pattern by LoveCrafts.  It has many sizes included and it is available here for free.

What are you creating today?

Another Knitted Hat - 31 Days of Creating...

Today was a full day and I was looking forward to some relaxing knitting this evening. Ever since I finished the green knitted hat the other day, I’ve been wanting to start another one. So I cast-on with this dusty pink yarn and I’m already about 5.5” in.

How was your day?

Crocheting an Afghan - 31 Days of Creating...

Tonight after dinner I went for a quick, refreshing walk and then crocheted a few minutes on this afghan. I love having a project like this to work on when we are all sitting around and talking because the pattern is very forgiving and super easy to remember. Plus it’s a great way to slow down after a busy day!

Do you have a project you like to work on after a long day?

Take a Walk in Nature - 31 Days of Creating...

The autumn temps have been lovely for afternoon walks lately.  In the heat of the summer I usually walk after the sun goes down.  It was a treat when I was greeted by this gorgeous rose when I went out for my walk today.

Then I walked down and around the neighborhood pond and the flowers were so colorful and the fountain so lively!  It was a delight indeed.

Does being out in nature refresh and recharge you?  Does it ground you and help you feel more at ease?  I know it does for me.  Plus a gentle walk is good for your body and soul!!!  Be intentional about finding things that bring you peace.  See if you can find some time to work in a walk today.  And make sure to look for the colorful flowers along the way!

Knitting a Sock - 31 Days of Creating....

Today I delivered the preemie gown that I mentioned here and here.  Then after dinner I sat down and picked up my knitting.  It seems like I only knit in the cooler months.  I'm not sure why that is.  But come October I am ready for some knitting.

Currently I am working on a sock.  Socks take me quite awhile to finish because I tend to do a little here and a little there.  This sock is knit from the cuff to the toe using five double-pointed needles.  I use a pattern by Fiber Trends called "Hellen's Favorite Socks."  I've used this pattern for years and I have found it very reliable and the fit is perfect for me (and my feet)!

The first time I made this pattern I used wool sock yarn.  I blogged about them here.  They keep my feet so very warm that I only get to wear them a few times a year.  That's kind of funny to me!!!  This navy blue sock weight yarn is called "Comfort Sock" by Berroco.  It is 50% super fine nylon and 50% super fine acrylic.  I prefer natural fibers but thought I would give this yarn a try because it is so soft!

What have you created this week?  I find it so very relaxing to create with my hands!!!

Smocking a Preemie Gown - 31 Days of Creating...

It was a beautiful fall day today!  After a refreshing walk I carved out some time to sit and stitch.  I worked on this sweet little preemie gown.  I recently pleated it and today I was able to enjoy smocking it.  I am using a medium blue DMC floss.  I can't find the label for the floss number - I must have thrown it away - so I can't share the actual color number.  I posted a video on my Instagram account (sewblessedcindy) of smocking the first row, which is a cable stitch.  So if you are curious what smocking looks like in real time go take a look.  The first row is always a little bit fiddly for me, but with a little patience and perseverance it always works out. I am not quite finished with all the smocking, but when I am I will share a picture.

Were you able to take a few minutes today to ground yourself by doing something you really enjoy?  I hope so!

"Fear Not Tomorrow" Cross-stitch Fun - 31 Days of Creating...

Did you take time to nurture your soul yet today?  There is still time!!!  I spent almost an hour cross-stitching this afternoon.  It felt great!!!

I started this cross-stitch several years ago and somehow it got put in a box when we moved.  So today I pulled it out and spent some time with it.  I'm hoping I can get it finished and then framed.

This pattern is called "Fear Not Tomorrow" by 4 My Boys.  I purchased it several years ago either at my local quilt/cross-stitch shop or my favorite needlepoint shop in Sevierville, TN - I can't remember which one.  The embroidery floss is hand-dyed and by a company called "The Gentle Art."  It is the first time I have worked with it and I find it to feel just like DMC floss which makes me happy.

Anyway, I hope you are thinking of ways to ground yourself each day.  Different people respond to different things.  I love creating and that is very therapeutic for me. Some people are grounded by creating music.  There are no right or wrongs - just find what fills your soul!!!

xoxo!
