Sweet Gingham Dress....

My first attempt at silk ribbon embroidery has found it's home. I actually had this little dress in mind before I even started the embroidery. I love gingham and I thought this would make the sweetest dress with knotted ties on the shoulder. I am planning to make a diaper cover for it later this week and maybe a headband as well.

I made it a size two. So, unfortunately I don't have a little girl to model it for me and you. I'm hoping that one day I will get that etsy shop up and running...and this will be one of many items that will find a new home. Note to self: stop sewing long enough to start working on the etsy shop!!! Pronto!!!

New Project.....

First off...thanks for all the lovely comments on my last post. I truly had SO MUCH FUN teaching that class on crocheted edgings. And to top it off, two of the sweet ladies contacted me this past week telling me they were purchasing the supplies needed to make more preemie-sized crocheted-edged bonnets. And one of these ladies is in her eighties, and I had the honor of teaching her to crochet that night. All the ladies in our smocking guild (SAGA) are so amazing!!!
Ok, now on to my new project. I actually did not sew or work on anything crafty for the last few days.....I was trying to catch up with house cleaning and such. Today, however, I decided to start something new. I have never before tried silk ribbon embroidery....but I always have wanted to. I planned ahead by ordering all the supplies needed a few weeks back. These sweet flowers (photo above) are what I worked on. I do have plans for this piece.....and hopefully it will go together quickly and easily. It sure goes a lot faster than using regular embroidery floss. And people have told me silk ribbon embroidery is very forgiving. I'll let you know my thoughts as I do more of it. It definitely was enjoyable....and I'm sure I'll be creating more projects with it. I don't know what took me so long to attempt silk ribbon embroidery...but I do know it was almost impossible to find supplies locally. I did find a few supplies at Hobby Lobby....after I had already ordered some on-line. If anyone has any tips for me.....feel free to send them. I have a few books that touch on silk ribbon embroidery and I borrowed one by Martha Pullen from my friend Paige that is really helpful. I find I usually do the best just by experimenting....which is what I did today!!
