31 Days of Creating Wrap Up...

Well friends, it has been a fabulous 31 Days of Creating!!! Thank you so much for coming on this journey with me. I hope you were encouraged and/or inspired to find something, or many things, that you enjoy to engage in a few minutes each day.

As Corrie ten Boom said “What feeds the soul matters as much as what feeds the body.”

As for me, tonight I finished up my fourth knitted hat and I practiced spinning wool with my drop spindle.

Elderberry Syrup - 31 Days of Creating...

Every fall I like to make a batch of elderberry syrup. I keep elderberries and rose hips in the freezer, and purchase local honey to make it. I’m thankful for the many herbs and berries God has given us to support our health. “And God said, ‘Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.’” (Genesis 1:29, ESV) 🌱🍯🥄

My First Weaving Project - 31 Days of Creating...

I finished weaving my first project and if you guessed that it was a cotton kitchen towel - you are correct!!! After washing and hemming, it measures about 17”x 28”, so it’s a great size. I only made one this time, but next time I’ll warp enough so that I can weave several at the same time. I was surprised how fast it went and how fun it was. I plan to make many more.

Afterwards, I spent a few minutes knitting on this cute, brown hat.

Spending even just a few minutes a day doing something you enjoy can have a profound impact on how you feel.

Weaving - 31 Days of Creating...

Do you enjoy exploring new hobbies? I find that it rejuvenates me! I have always wanted to weave on a loom and my husband got me one for my birthday recently. Tonight I started the warping process (which so far is pretty relaxing) and tomorrow I will finish it and start weaving!!! Yay!!!

Does weaving sound like fun to you?

Embroidery - 31 Days of Creating...

I finished my last embroidery project a few weeks ago, so today I decided to begin a new one. I really enjoy embroidery because it’s relaxing, and it reminds me of my grandmother. She would create beautiful floral designs on the hemmed edges of pillowcases. One day I’m going to do that too.

Do you like to do embroidery?

More Hat Knitting - 31 Days of Creating...

I have really enjoyed knitting lately. I appreciate the repetitive and soothing nature of it. When the days are busy I look forward to squeezing in time to knit in the evenings. And I love that these hats work up so quickly!

Cotton Dishcloths - 31 Days of Creating...

I make these cotton dishcloths whenever I have a few minutes of time here and there. They are quick and simple to make. I keep a basket with all the supplies, as well as the ones I have finished. We use them daily at our house and we often give them as gifts. I love how colorful they are!!!

Do you have something you like to make and share with others?

Painting: Bob Ross Style - 31 Days of Creating...

Who doesn’t love “happy little clouds”?

Some people are content to watch Bob Ross paint, and some people want to paint like him! My husband and a few of our kids have been inspired to start painting this year. They say it brings them joy! And I have been amazed by their creativity!

Have you picked up a new hobby this year?

Embossed Cards - 31 Days of Creating...

As I mentioned before, I really enjoy making cards. One of my favorite techniques is dry embossing. You use an embossing tool to trace around a metal or hard plastic stencil that is placed under a piece of card stock. The resulting image is the stencil design transferred to the card stock. Then that piece of cardstock can be glued or taped onto a notecard. Or the design can also be transferred directly to your notecard. Lots of options here!!! And lots of fun too!!!

Were you able to take a few minutes to do something you enjoy today? It really makes a difference!

Knitted Hat in Progress - 31 Days of Creating...

Happy Sunday!!! I hope you’ve had a blessed Lord’s Day!!! I’m knitting on this hat while my daughter plays hymns on the piano for us.  I have knit many hats over the years and I’m really enjoying this pattern by LoveCrafts.  It has many sizes included and it is available here for free.

What are you creating today?

A Rose and Alterations - 31 Days of Creating...

It was a gorgeous fall day!!! We spent some time outside and picked this beautiful rose.

Now I’m inside hemming some nursing scrubs for my daughter. Do you do alterations? They are not my favorite, but I am happy that I can usually do them.

I hope your Saturday was joyful and blessed!!!

Another Knitted Hat - 31 Days of Creating...

Today was a full day and I was looking forward to some relaxing knitting this evening. Ever since I finished the green knitted hat the other day, I’ve been wanting to start another one. So I cast-on with this dusty pink yarn and I’m already about 5.5” in.

How was your day?

A Doorknob Basket - 31 Days of Creating...

I’ve been weaving baskets here and there for almost 30 years. I prefer to weave the larger market baskets, but I thought a small basket would be fun to make today. This one is going to hang on a doorknob and hold various treasures for me.

Did you take some time to nurture your soul today?

A Fun Crocheted Flower - 31 Days of Creating...

I have decided I love these cute little crocheted flowers! They work up pretty quickly and add a fun little statement. I made this one in an ivory color and I really like it on my jean jacket. It makes me smile. What made you slow down and smile today?

Knitting a Hat - 31 Days of Creating...

This afternoon I was knitting again.  Did you know that knitting is proven to be mentally therapeutic and has stress-reducing benefits?  It really does.  A group of ladies and I are knitting hats to donate to various charities. I like being about to bless others in this way.

So I started this hat today and at first I wasn't sure about the color but it has grown on me.

Also, I uploaded a video to my Instagram account here of me knitting on this hat.  I find knitting to be so relaxing and calming.  Do you like to knit?  I'd love to hear from you.

Creating Music - 31 Days of Creating...

Music has an amazing ability to calm, relax, and refresh people.  Myself included.  Creating music is not my forte, but I do have four children who all play piano beautifully!!!  I often ask them to play so that I can enjoy the music.  Tonight I asked one of them to play some hymns for us.

While I'm listening to they hymns I am crocheting on my afghan I posted about two days ago.  I do find a lot of music relaxing and refreshing!

Do you enjoy music?  And are you able to create music?

Making Cards - 31 Days of Creating...

I love to send handwritten notes of encouragement to my family and friends.  So every few months I make a handful of cards using various techniques.  Today I rubber-stamped some notecards, colored them with watercolor pencils, and then brushed water on to blend the pencil strokes and give them a watercolored look.  I find this whole process so fun, so calming, and hopefully a future blessing to others.  I made three short videos you can see on my Instagram page at sewblessedcindy.

"Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed."  Proverbs 11:25b NIV

Do you ever make greeting cards?  If so, what's your favorite technique?

Crocheting an Afghan - 31 Days of Creating...

Tonight after dinner I went for a quick, refreshing walk and then crocheted a few minutes on this afghan. I love having a project like this to work on when we are all sitting around and talking because the pattern is very forgiving and super easy to remember. Plus it’s a great way to slow down after a busy day!

Do you have a project you like to work on after a long day?

Take a Walk in Nature - 31 Days of Creating...

The autumn temps have been lovely for afternoon walks lately.  In the heat of the summer I usually walk after the sun goes down.  It was a treat when I was greeted by this gorgeous rose when I went out for my walk today.

Then I walked down and around the neighborhood pond and the flowers were so colorful and the fountain so lively!  It was a delight indeed.

Does being out in nature refresh and recharge you?  Does it ground you and help you feel more at ease?  I know it does for me.  Plus a gentle walk is good for your body and soul!!!  Be intentional about finding things that bring you peace.  See if you can find some time to work in a walk today.  And make sure to look for the colorful flowers along the way!

xoxo!!!
