Mail Call....

Last Friday I ordered some items from Chadwick Heirlooms . It was the first time I ordered from this company so I wasn't sure what to expect. Imagine my surprise when the package arrived at my house on Tuesday!!! Fast delivery definitely scores points in my book. And then I opened the mailing package and look what I found:

All of my supplies so nicely wrapped up in tissue paper, with a gold Chadwick sticker, and tied with a peach ribbon....all of which was placed in a plastic bag to prevent any damage during transportation. Isn't that a great presentation???? I will definitely order from them again!!! They have my attention!!! So what was inside?????

Small increments of some very luxurious bastiste, entredeux, and ribbons that I will use to create a sweet little bonnet for the Peaches and Cream Baby Bonnet Contest that SAGA is hosting at the annual convention next month. I am trying hard to get the fall outfits completed for the girls before I start on this....but it has been hard to wait.

On another fun note, today we had several errands to run...including the heirloom sewing shop for some buttons...and guess what??? Ladies are already signing up for my Crochet-Edged Bonnet class....YEAH!!!! I better get busy....lots of exciting things I should be working on!!!

Fall Sewing Is Here....

I am about to start some fall sewing!! I really like the colors and textures of the fall fabrics. Corduroy is one of my favorite fabrics to sew....unusual, I know!!! Hopefully both Emily and Elisabeth will have an outfit made with some or all of the above fabrics.
I did not get a whole lot accomplished this week. Wayne was away all week on travel and I have been taking antibiotics for an upcoming root canal scheduled for this Tuesday. However I did squeeze in a little time on a sweet little baby dress. I put some hand embroidery on it earlier today while everyone was napping. I really enjoy doing hand embroidery.....there is something so therapeutic about it.
I also need to work on my crochet-edged baby bonnet directions for the class I am teaching. I have a rough outline on paper...now I need to go back and flesh it out and then type it in the computer. I like having nice handouts for my classes. I guess I seem to prepare for and teach classes the way I wish others did. I have only been to a couple of classes and they generally seem to be lacking in directions and "meat." I think if people are taking the time to attend they should learn something and have some good handouts so they can replicate the item at home. Am I the only one that feels this way????
Well, I think that about wraps up my week. I'll be back soon to share pictures of the baby dress and the items for the girls.

Sweet Baby Bonnet......

Imagine my surprise when the local heirloom shop owner asked me if I'd like to teach a class on crochet edging. Together we decided a precious little bonnet would be the perfect project. We will completely construct the bonnet and hopefully crochet some of it during the class. It will be somewhat similar to the class I taught at our local Smocking Guild (SAGA). However, I constructed all the bonnets for that night and the members worked only on crocheting the edging.

I think it will be a lot of fun. These photos above are of the bonnet I made for the shop to display for the class. I've already heard there is definite interest. I used Martha's Favorite Batiste, from Martha Pullen for the bonnet, which is 100% cotton....I really enjoyed working with it. And the hand embroidery was so smooth on the fabric. Kind of like a hot knife through butter. I also am working on a sweet little dress that will match this bonnet. I am really enjoying sewing baby clothes lately. It seems I always have another idea that I want to get onto paper and then constructed with fabric. Times are good!!!
