Sock It To Me

Ok, here are my socks that I knitted earlier this year. I never understood what all the hoopla was about hand knit socks until I put these on my feet for the first time. These socks feel like they were custom made for my piggies (and I guess they really were). They are soooooo comfortable!!! Unfortunately, we recently had hardwood floors installed and now my socks are wayyyyyyy too slippery to wear around the house.

Anyway, I used a pattern by Fiber Trends called Hellen's Favorite Socks. It was fantastic!!! The yarn I used was Trekking. IF I ever make more, I will use a solid color. I am a white sock kind of person......so the varigated look just does nothing for me. And just so you know, the above photo makes the socks look like they are uneven in length......however, they are the same length.

As a side note, just putting these on for the photo makes me want to make some more. As a bonus, I found this project to be wonderful for mindless knitting. I only had to really pay attention while knitting the heel and gussett.

Very nice socks. They look great. I'm working on a pair, too, but I'm so slow at it.

I also love the baby sweater you knit! You inspire me to do more knitting, which is rather new for me since I grew up only crocheting.

Jennifer,

You can certainly knit socks! They seem scary because of all the needles....but they really aren't bad.

First I found a pattern that was for worsted weight yarn and size 8 needles. Then after I realized I had the technique down, I switched to the proper supplies and made these socks. My seven-year-old (when she was six) learned how to knit with 5 double pointed needles(at her request) .....so I know you can!!! How's that for inspiration???

Ruth,

Thanks for the kind words. I can't wait to see your finished socks. I find the hardest part to be casting on for the second pair. I always heard to do it immediately upon finishing the first. I did that but it still took awhile to get it finished.

Sounds like you enjoy knitting as well as crocheting. When I was little I could do both but preferred crochet, now I prefer knitting but will crochet here and there. I still need to make the baby cradle. Anyway, glad to provide some inspiration...hopefully in a positive way!!!
