Last week I made a few more Miss Lily dresses for the girls. The one above is for Emily. She picked this fabric out from our local heirloom shop. I thought the fabric might be a little too heavy for the dress...but it turned out great. On both of these dresses I did not make the bubble skirt. I left the decision up to the girls and they both wanted just a regular skirt instead. I followed the directions except for adding the underskirt and then, of course, since I left that part out I had to hem the dress bottom. Quick and easy!!!
This is Elisabeth's dress. I picked up this fabric from our local Hancock's a few months back. It was in the cotton quilting section. The sash across the middle of both dresses is grosgrain ribbon. It is sewn onto the front and then it ties in the back to cinch up the dress on the child.
And I know I have mentioned this many times before, but I like to use cotton twill tape to make a tag. I generally stitch it by machine, but it could be done by hand, and I then add the tag into the back seam. This helps the kids know front from back on some items, plus it helps me remember what size I made. Just another little tip that I enjoy and maybe you will too!!!

Lovely dresses! I always enjoy seeing what sewing you've been up to.
I do that sometimes with the twill tape, also, but sometimes I'm in too much of a hurry. I will also sometimes just stitch a folded piece of ricrac into the back casing of a pair of Addie's pants, so she can tell front from back! :)
The material of both dresses is so summery and feminine. They're beautiful!!
Do you order the actual pattern or the downloadable one? I would love to try this dress, but I've never downloaded a PDF pattern...
Thanks Ruth!! You've been busy sewing up a storm too!!!
Katie...I have seen where a lot of people use the folded ricrac as well. I've also seen folded ribbon used. As long as the little ones know which way their pants go on....I think that is a good thing!!!
Deborah....thanks!! I order PDF files a lot. I like the short-term gratification...meaning I have little patience. Generally, once you order the pattern you are sent a file to your email address. You click on the file and it usually opens up the PDF file...you will need Adobe Acobat Reader to open the file. (It is free, if not already on your computer.) Then you can print the file out on your regular 8.5 x 11 paper. Depending upon the size of the pattern you may have to "tile" the pattern together with tape to piece the pattern piece together. All of the ones I have purchased have very definite overlap lines so that the patterns are very easy to put together. Does that make sense? If not, ask more and I'll try to clarify better. I love PDF files though and highly recommend them!!
Cindy, I love your new dresses! Sweet, girly fabric - Your girls will look so nice in them!
Beautiful sewing!
Yes, I think it makes sense. Now I just need to sit down and make my order :0)!
Thank you!!
Those are so cute! My girls may need a few...
