I do sew some for Sweet Ethan, although honestly it is much less than I sew for the girls. However, that will change in a few months when I start sewing for another sweet little baby boy!!! Not too much longer now. But I digress. I made Ethan this fun outfit to use as a canvas for a stitch that I demonstrated at our last Smocking Guild meeting. The khaki shorts have both pockets and pleats....a nice combination, I think. The shorts and the shirt go together very quickly and look very polished. I am already planning a few more outfits for Ethan using this same pattern which is Luke by Pintucks and Pettiecoats (my friend Paige).
As for the stitch I mentioned....I saw it on a trim in a Better Homes & Garden sewing book from 1960. It did not have directions but it wasn't very difficult to replicate. I call it "cheater's bridging"......but I'm sure it has another name in the embroidery arena. One day I'll look it up.
I think it looks "boyish" enough for this shirt and it also looks great on some preemie bonnets I made that are intended for little girls. I think there are a lot of applications where it would look well-placed and "smart." I enjoy learning new stitches and new techniques. It expands my repertoire and gives me more choices for future projects.

I love the outfit. I have one and soon will have a second grandson (the other six are girls). The parents seem to think little boys are born wearing jeans and t-shirts. They don't like bubble suits or any of that stuff - even when they are little so I get my boy fix with blankets and burp cloths.

Very, very sweet!
It is perfect! So boyish and classy too!
I can not stitch a stitch like that, but I do remember practicing a pattern like it in cursive for penmanship. I really liked how it flowed.
Very cute outfit!! Is this an announcement??? ;))) A blue flavor announcement???? :)))))
Thanks for all the thoughtful remarks. I really like this outfit for Ethan. I will have to post a picture of him wearing it.
Cheryl...yes, we are expecting another sweet little one in June. I've had a blurb about it on my sidebar for awhile now...but I haven't really mentioned it otherwise. We go for another u/s this coming week...so we'll see if they still predict a sweet baby boy. Thanks for asking....we are excited!!!
Very sweet! You will have to share your sewing ideas for the next little boy (if a boy) we are expecting June 27th (a boy...at least that's what they told us, but that's what they told us with Annika, too)!
Congratulations! I didn't know as I don't pay much attention to the side bars. I'm so happy for you and your family!1 :)
Casey....thanks. Yes, I have a few ideas to sew for the new baby. We have another ultrasound this Wednesday...so we'll see if they still believe it to be a sweet boy. I need to get busy on some of the ideas I have. My due date is June 20th...very close to yours!!! I hope you are feeling well!!!
Cheryl...thanks so much!!! We are thrilled too!!!
