Free-Motion Success....

I wanted to practice some free-motion quilting so this bag was born. I quickly found this floral fabric at the quilt store and then picked up the polka dot fabric to line it and make the handles. I love the combination. Eventually I really want to be able to stipple quilt...you know the meandering quilting stitch that roams over the surface of the quilt never crossing over a previous quilted stitch. I love that look. However, I can barely quilt anything other than a straight line. So I made this quilted bag and then free-motioned around the flowers. I love how it turned out....and I love the polka dot surprise everytime I look inside. I find that I carry it with me all the time when we run errands. It's the perfect size to carry a couple books, patterns, or a project. Overall it was quick and fun.

Emily spent a couple nights getting comfortable with our most recent acquisition. Our favorite heirloom shop sells Berninas. One day recently we walked in and this sweet little machine was in the window and needed a new home. It had been traded in for sometime much more fancy and therefore it was lonely. Since the price was right.....we carried it home with us.

We have had so much fun with it. I have been taking it to my classes since it is a little lighter than my other machine. Plus Emily (and I) will be attending a doll sewing club starting this Saturday morning and it will accompany us there each month too. This first meeting will be spent sketching out, planning, and designing a heirloom dress for their favorite 18"doll. I think I'm as excited as Emily. Oh, and the same sweet lady, Diane, that is conducting the doll sewing club also has a fabric arts and crafts group that Emily and Elisabeth attended last month. They had so much fun. It also meets monthly and they are working on Christmas items/gifts. I volunteered to stay and help out (since we don't just drive up anywhere and drop the kids off and then leave). I had as much fun as the kids. I can't wait to see what we do this month.

Love the purse! I am so amazed at the work your daughter does, too, at such a young age.

I'm still contemplating the smocking and embroidery! ;)

I have a hard time with the straight lines too. I love the stipple. It gives everyone a chance at greatness. I think the bag is great. I can see it being very useful in all situations. I'm very glad Emily loves her new machine. She has moved uptown! Take pictures of the doll class. I too never leave my kids. I still wait for Taylor and he's 14! It does get uncomfortable at tennis in the 90+ degree heat and no shade!
Keep up the good work.

Just when I was feeling good about the drawstring backpack I finished. LOL!! That "machine" scares me. Does it include onsite assistance from the designing engineer?? hahaha Your work is so lovely.
