Have A Heart.....

(excuse the blurry picture)
So this was the extent of our crafting goodness today. Emily and I managed to pour a bag of converstion hearts into a mason jar , plop a candle (in a glass holder) on top, and tie a ribbon around it. However, before we retired the hearts to the jar we spent the entire morning playing games with them.
First we sorted them by color and charted the results. Then we created math problems based on colors (e.g., what color has the most, what color has the least, what is the difference between the two). Then we did several estimation exercises (e.g., how many hearts will fit on this cardboard heart, how many are in this jar, etc). But the most favorite by far was Valentine Battleship. We played several times throughout the day....and as I type this the girls are playing again. Where else can you have this much fun.....and be learning at the same time???? (Oh, and in our warm, cozy house too!!!) Homeschooling is great!!!

Amen to that! I wouldn't trade one second of time with my children. It is so wonderful to facilitate learning and the a-ha moment when you see the learning take place.
I do love the jar idea. Have you lit the candle yet? I'll bet it looks beautiful especially since you did it together!

Missy,

Yes, we have lit the candle. This is actually my centerpiece answer for most holidays. We usually fill it with whatever candy or whatnot for the season. As for homeschooling....I love seeing them learn something for the first time and making that connection. The biggy for me is seeing them learn to read and knowing I was the one that facilitated it!!!

April,

I am glad you found my little crafty spot on the web. I loved visiting your blog....your family is beautiful and your projects are great. I also enjoyed seeing all the patterns you have linked to. Come back and visit often. We love visiting the Smoky Mt. area....maybe we'll run into you at a yarn shop on one of our visits.
