Some of you all know I love to design items for my little ones. Well Emily asked me a few weeks ago to design her a pleated skort. I have had so much fun the past week working on this fun little skort. I drafted out the pattern and have stitched up three so far. The one above is Elisabeth's.
I know that because hers have pink gingham shorts underneath.
Emily's have red gingham shorts underneath.
This blue print one is my actual prototype. I love this fabric but when I ordered it several years back it arrived with major sun faded spots all over it.....I guess from where it was sitting in the shop window for awhile. Now I just use it for prototypes when I design.
And here are the shorts underneath the skirt. I have drafted the pattern out in many sizes and am working to hopefully publish the pattern eventually. If all goes well I may ask for volunteer testers down the road. The skort actually goes together very quickly and with no placket or zipper......just elastic in the back waistband.
My girls love their skorts and have worn them many times just since last week. Currently I am designing a shirt to match for both girls....but a different design for each girl. When I get those finished I'll take pictures of the girls with their outfits on. What do you think? The pattern could be made just as a skirt or with the shorts added to create the skort. There truly are a lot of options for making them and embellishing them. I am going to make up a few more samples while all the details get ironed out.

I love it!!! I think having the little shorts underneath is a wonderful addition. Your girls can play on the swings bike whatever and not have to worry about whether their skirt is cooperating :0).
Looks great. I'm so proud of you. You have such amazing talent and I'm so glad to see you using and sharing it. Maybe I could test your pattern and we could see if it's easy enough for those of us who are pattern challenged ;) Then maybe you could advertise it as a pattern for "dummies".LOL Great job as usual!
Great pattern! I love the idea of a skort.
Cindy, very cute! Just the right thing for summer! How amazing to be able to design and make a pattern, and then make the garment. Great job!
OMG how smart and clever are you. SO very adorable. And much cuter than the gym shorts or boxers that my girls wore under their uniform skirts.
Very cute! I love the gingham shorts underneath. What a cute surprise.
Wow, I love them all! I would LOVE to be a pattern tester for you when/if you get to that point. It's something so versatile. Great job!
That is a great pattern! I would be happy to make samples if you're looking for volunteers.
You all are so kind!!! Thank you so much!!! I am happy to know that this pattern might be one that would interest others beside myself. I am definitely proceeding forward and I will let you all know how it is going as time progresses. I appreciate the ones that said they would be interested in testing for me. I am thrilled you would be interested. I will let you know more when the time comes. Thanks again!!!
I've used a pattern from a church ministry to make skorts for my daughter. Yours are very cute! I like the little notch detail on the shorts!
Oh that is soooooo sweet!
Susan and Hopewell...thanks for the kind words. These skorts work well for my little girls so they can still play and not worry so much about keeping their skirt down. I had some skorts when I was growing up that my grandmother made for me. And they were made out of gingham...imagine that!!!!
My daughter will be starting Kindergarten in the fall, and I have been searching for a pleated skirt/shorts pattern for her up and coming uniform wear... is this a pattern you sell? or share via PDF? I would totally love it!
April....I am hoping to get the pattern all finished and tested very soon. And then I will have it for sale definitely as a paper pattern and hopefully as a pdf file. I will keep you in mind as I work on this. Thanks so much for your interest!!!
Please, let me know when this is available either for testing OR for buying. I have a size 4/5 and a 7 who would love to try in on.
I'll be a volunteer tester! your skort is so adorable!

Add me to the list who love this idea! I have a 5 year old who would wear this all the time. I love it. And if you need another pattern tester I am here and she wears a 6 :) Love it!
Your skorts are adorable. I have two girls and would love this pattern to be made available. If you need a(nother) tester... well, I would really love to too!
