I have been working on this sweet little dress for a friend of mine. She had to have an emergency c-section at 32 weeks of pregnancy. The precious baby girl was born two weeks ago today weighing 3 lbs. and 9 oz. And it is amazing to me but she has had no significant problems to overcome aside from regulating her body temperature and being able to eat on her own. No heart issues....no breathing issues!!! Incredible to me. Anyway, my friend (the mom) was working on a smocked dress for her before she was born and she was hoping to finish it before the baby was born. That obviously didn't happen. So I told her I would work on one for her. After all, I make preemie bishops all the time....no big deal, right???? Wrong.
This is completely off-topic (but I can't help myself) but I cut some of our daffodils today to bring inside. I love fresh cut flowers. It really makes me feel like Spring is almost here!!! Not much longer!!!
My big mistake was trying out a new pattern when in a time crunch. It probably wasn't the best idea. The main problem (I won't even go into details about all the little problems) with this precious dress is that the neckband is obviously too big. I did follow the pattern...I just think it is too big. So I moved the button over a little on the backside. I figured that was the least of my worries at this point. I just want the dress completed before the adorable little baby graduates from college....not to mention the NICU.
As for details, I smocked it with white...I love tone on tone smocking. Then I placed delicate little bullion rose buds around the bottom of the smocking. I also hand-crocheted a lace edging around the sleeves. I love how delicate it looks. I really like the dress and I hope my friend does too!!!

I meant to call you when I was at Rae's, but I didn't think about it until I was on my way home. I was too busy to think during the day and too tired to at night! So....baby is due in June, huh? Hmmm, that's just 3 months away....I'm thinking you should be anywhere from 25-29 weeks along now, right? So....do you know what flavor baby you're having??

Kelley...I would have loved to have heard from you but I figured you would be very busy while at Rae's. Maybe next time under better circumstances. As for the baby....due date is June 20th (24 weeks along) and the doctor thinks it is a BOY!!! You are observant for noticing my mention of it on the sidebar!!!

I started an "inspiration file" of pics of the things you have made, so when I need a new idea, I go look at it thanks. Now if you (or some one) whould do a step by step pic by picnof how to do hand done buillion rose (about 3 time around, the bud & the a med color row and a darker color row) or a you tube. I live in desert of So Calif and Nooooooooo one does this heirloom but me. I am going again (went 13 yrs ago) to Martha Pullen 4 days of heirloom machine sewing in Pasadena in Nov, but I want to learn to do it by hand to but in tight and small spaces for babies. I have A to Z buillion & A to Z sewing for smockers,but I would love to watch it through your pictures, especially the needle placment. I know you are busy with a newborn, but would you consider it in the future for your tutorials. Matter of fact I will go ck there right now to see what else you have!! Thanks again for sharing your beautiful work.
