Emily's Hat Project....

Emily has been working on a new project. She is knitting hats for newborns at the local hospital. She has been knitting for over three years now. I honestly think she can knit as well, if not better than I can. She is not fearful of creating new designs either. She has designed several cotton dishcloths for friends.

The decreases on the top of the hat are perfect. We went to the local yarn shop last week to pick up some more colors. The story turns funny when the ladies in there found out we were purchasing yarn for my girls and not for me. After hearing of what Emily was creating with the yarn, the owner of the shop gave us 50% off our entire purchase. Maybe I should have picked up some yarn!

This is the second hat she has finished. When she sets her mind to it, she can turn out a hat in a week or so. Pretty good for an eight year old!

And this is the third hat she made. She started by following a pattern and now she has it memorized. She is also knitting these in the round. After she gets a few more made we will take a trip to the hospital baby nursery and deliver these sweet hats. She wanted to have some red ones for Christmas babies!

Wow! That's wonderful! She could even sell some on etsy if she wanted to. Those are lovely.

I am SO impressed! She does a great job, and I know she'll be thrilled to take her little hats to the hospital for the new babies.

Amie, Hopewellmomschool, and Susan....your comments are all so kind. My sweet Emily has been sick since Monday and as she read your thoughtful words her face lit up and she smiled. Thanks so much!!!

Emily always does well at everything she attempts. I think it's the attention she gets and encouragement from you. There's nothing an 8 year old can't do. Taylor was 8 when he started volunteering 4 days a week at meals on wheels, and doing public speeches for the United Way about volunteerism.

Thanks Missy. She can do anything she sets her mind to. Right now she is embroidering something for Christmas.

Cheryl,

Emily is grinning ear-to-ear! And I don't think she even realizes how amazing it is that she can do these things...with no further help from me. With the hats....she does them 100% on her own....she locates supplies in the house, casts on using the long-tail cast-on, knits, decreases, weaves in the ends, etc. She constantly exceeds my expectations! Thanks so much for the kind words!!!

Kudos to Emily for being such a talented young lady!!! I have knitted a few items in my lifetime, and I have discovered that I don't have a talent for knitting.
