Finally.....A Finished Quilt......

I finally took the time to finish Emily's double Irish chain quilt. I think it looks great on her bed. Plus the size of the quilt is great....not too big and not too small. She picked the design and fabrics awhile back (read that to mean.....a long time ago) and I went through cycles working on it. For a few months now it has only lacked the binding. So the other day while Ethan took an extremely long nap I finished it. I am so pleased with it. Now if only it was king-sized and fit my bed!

The pattern for this quilt came from the book "Time For A Chain." The book is great and really takes all the guesswork out of it. My original thoughts were to make another one for Elisabeth with her choice of colors. But then this one took me so long that I am thinking of a different strategy. I'm thinking of making her a quilt that utilizes much larger blocks so that it will theoretically sew up much faster.

On the larger white areas I practiced my free-motion quilting skills...which honestly, leave a lot to be desired. Emily requested a heart in each spot. I just made a heart template and then lightly traced around it with a pencil. That is usually what I always do and then if any pencil remains it usually washes out the first time it goes through the washer. Currently I am working on another project and I used the blue water-soluble pen. Let's just say I might have to do some "creative embellishing" because the blue ink is NOT wanting to disappear. Hopefully the LONG soak in the sink will help. And if that doesn't work....I may be taking a long soak in the tub!

Emily's quilt looks beautiful. That Irish chain is definitely a time consuming one. All those small squares! Ugh. I'm amazed you got it finished. Keep up the good work.

I think the quilt came out great. Way to go. I find the best thing to use for tracing on the fabric is colored chalk. Well, the color depends on the fabric. If it's a dark fabric I use white chalk. It usually just brushes right off when you are done. Great job. Thanks for sharing.

I am in love with this quilt! Green is my favorite color! To answer your question about the diaper bag: Yes, there is a quilt like that. My mom bought one for my sister and I could not get enough, so I had to use the idea! My sister has been in the hospital for a month (she is having twins next Wed.), and mom only found a twin size, so she got it to home up her room a little.

Thanks for all the kind comments. I love this quilt too....now if only it was king-sized. At least I get to see it everyday on Emily's bed.
