My Sweet Baby......

(This photo was pre-croup.....but he is still smiling some.....)

My sweet little Ean is sick. He has croup. And croup just isn't fun!!! He woke up with it yesterday morning and so we spent the afternoon at the doctor. I thought croup was just annoying and nothing really to worry about....but our very laid-back pediatrician said it can be very dangerous in babies. So, needless to say, I spent the night holding him and listening to his every breath....the barking ones and the non-barking ones. And I've continued to do the same today and on into tonight. They say it's usually the first three days that are the worst.

Then this morning Emily woke up with a fever and a headache.....and so it continues. I am praying the other two manage to stay healthy.

So, needless to say, there won't be a whole lot of sewing going on in these parts over the next few days. I am half-way finished with Ean's Easter outfit and have the fabric and trims for Elisabeth's. I am so anxious to have them all finished and on these sweet little ones. But in the meantime, I will be here holding and snuggling my babies until they feel better!!!

Ohhh, we've all been there! Your baby sounds like my second boy - he always, always smiled, even when he was sick. I hope your little folks are well soon!

Oh Cindy, how scary. I pray that your kiddos heal quickly and stay well. My India is home sick right now and I am not sure when she will make it back to school. I have her Easter dress done and have not even started smocking Ahnalin's. I hope to start it tomorrow. I pray you get some rest and I can't wait to see your Easter pretties.

My son had the croup when he was a baby. The first time I was so scared we went to the ER and he ended up with 2 pediatricians considering admitting him to the hospital. He had to epinephrine and he kept crying, which made it worse. One doctor said that the outside air actually helped. They don't know why. So, one night he and I slept right next to the sliding glass door open with the screen and that helped. I tried running the shower with steam, it didn't work as well. After a couple of years I noticed he had it every spring and fall, his pediatrician then said it was probably allergic asthma. He is 15 now, and he grew out of it. I completely sympathize, it made me panic.

Hi Cindy,
my kids are getting notorious for the croup thing. - it is scary!- I have found the best solution for a good night sleep is to get their room good and humid before they go to bed. I close the door and plug in an electric kettle with the lid open. I set the timer for 25-30 minutes and let it steam up their bedroom. (the best solution of course is still to bundle them up and take them outside in cold weather but when its not too cold that doesn't do a whole lot - my sister says holding them above the freezer works too but it never has for me)
if it continues a lot then ask your doctor for puffers!!
All the best and I hope they get well soon!

Thanks so much. This was my first experience with croup. I had thought the girls had had a brief experience with it years ago...but it was nothing like this past week. Croup can be down right scary with anyone under 5 years of age. I am hopeful they will be back to normal very soon!!! But thanks again for taking the time to send me your kind thoughts. It really means a lot to me!!!
