Emily's New Hobby.....

For Christmas Emily received a gift card to a local craft store. During a trip to that store last week, Emily decided to use her gift card to get a crochet kit. She already knew how to crochet a chain stitch and a single crochet stitch....but the kit also taught her to double crochet. Upon learning that stitch she was off and running, teaching herself to make granny squares. She has been crocheting in all her spare time over the past few days...even in the car sometimes. Tonight, after I realized she had been in the girl's room for awhile, she came out really excited.....with this beautiful scarf around her neck. She had finished the required number of granny squares and stitched them together!!!! She has officially picked up a new hobby, I believe!!!!

Amazing!! Emily you are onto something good! I did not learn to crochet until I was in my 30's. Tried and tried for a long time, but it just did not come to me. You are a very blessed girl that you are able to pick these gifts up so easily.

Thank you all so much for the sweet words for Emily. She has loved reading them and I am convinced she has been walking around the house a little taller.

Super job! I've said this before, but I think it is so awesome that you LET your kids do "real work" like sewing and knitting and now crochet. So many parents today think they are "too little" and of course they're not! Great job Miss Emily--lovely little scarf!

Emily! Hey sweetie! You did a wonderful job! I am just so proud of you! I'm going to show Molly when she comes in from outside, I know she will be impressed too! Molly has two new chickens and two new kitty cats right now so she has been extra busy lately taking care of all of her babies :)

Have a nice day sweetie!

xoxo,
Samantha

Hopewell...thanks so much. We learned early on to buy our children "tools" rather than toys. We are raising future adults not future children. We really try to think through purchases as a result. Now, they still have plenty of toys, but we also make sure they have plenty of "tools." I really think it makes them think differently. Thanks again though for the kind comments.

Samantha...thanks so much for the sweet note for Emily. She really enjoyed our visit with you and constantly asks when we'll see you again. It was kind of you to send her an encouraging note about her crocheting. Thanks so much!
