A Smocked Spring Dress.....

I finally finished this dress for Elisabeth. It has been languishing on my sewing table for at least 4-6 weeks now. The pattern only goes up to a size 4....but I modified it slightly to fit Elisabeth (who usually wears a size 6). I really like the smocking on the front yoke line. I did not follow any smocking pattern....just sat down one night and stitched. I will admit to pulling out a lot of stitches along the way though...because some of the colors I had picked out really did not look too good once I started.

I also really like this fabric. It has polka dots all over it. Plus, you know I had to add some gingham in....so I made the bias trim (arm hole binding), piping, and collar out of the pink/white gingham. Elisabeth really likes it...which makes all the work worth it.
Thanks for the wonderful remarks to my last post about the skort. I will keep you all updated along the way!!!!

Cindy,
The dress is just beautiful. I love smocking. You can tell by your daughter's smile how much she likes the dress. Always makes it worth the effort doesn't it.

I'm glad it is not languishing anymore. Too cute. That is a very cute print. Which pattern did you use?

I just found your blog. The fabric for your daughter's dress is the same (I think) as some i recently bought to make my grand daughter something for her birthday. I love the different colors of polka dots. I, too love that smocking line on the front. The gingham detailing is perfect. I love the skorts you've done. All the little dresses are adorable for that matter. The little boys outfit is too.
I noticed in one photo that you have the same ivy wallpaper that I had in the houses we used to live in. I loved that wall paper. I should have used it in this house.

Julia....thanks for all the kind words. I am so glad you found my little spot on the web. It's funny you mentioned our ivy wallpaper. I did not care for it at first...but now it has grown on me (no pun intended). I need to stop by and visit your blog!!! Come back and visit!

Cindy I have heard the same comments. You should email Cyndi so she knows. Perhaps she is working on a revision. But it is still as cute as can be.

I have this dress in my stack to make. I noticed that the directions are a little confusing too. I know she has some updated revisions so you should definately email her.

Martha and LeslieW...thanks so much. I did email her early on to make sure I understood what she meant. She confirmed I was on the right track. I have a tendency to stray from directions anyway. I do hope she has put out a revision because the pattern is so cute.
