Elisabeth's New Outfit....My Own Design......

I am completely in love with this outfit for Elisabeth. I guess that is kind of selfish.....but I don't know. I just love to dress up my little ones in cute clothes and this outfit really fits the bill. I made the skort first and then wanted to come up with an idea for a top. I designed this top and then drafted it from a basic bodice block. It really did not take that long and I had so much fun with it. I have always been a paper and pencil person....and you add a ruler to the mix....watch out. I have always loved to sketch out designs...and even when I'm writing papers, instructions, etc...I almost always write it out long-hand on paper first before entering it into the computer. I just like the "feel" of writing on paper.

Ok, back to the top (above picture). I love this back view of the top. You can see that I put in a back yoke that is lined and I added an inverted pleat in the center.

I love the detailing on the lined pocket. I put a pleated trim on so that the pleats from the skort are repeated. I used the pink/white gingham because the shorts under her skort are pink/white gingham. Also, the way I did the armhole binding looks like I applied piping...but I did not. I wasn't sure I'd like that...but I really do.

And I drafted out a one-piece peter pan collar with the gingham again. And I did add piping around the edges. You can't see it in the above photos...but the shirt also has side slits.

Overall, I love the outfit and so does Elisabeth. And the extra bonus is both pieces are very comfortable....not binding or tight at all. We had a busy schedule today and both girls wore their matching skorts...they were too cute!!!! Now to work on a shirt for Emily that she approves of....that might be a little harder.

Cindy, this is a darling outfit. Are you, maybe, someday, planning on publishing these patterns? I know this little skort pattern would have many fans.

Oh, and Elisabeth is a gorgeous girl in her pretty outfit.

Thank you Sivje!!! I am seriously considering publishing the skort pattern. I've been working all the math and drafting out multiple sizes. If I think there is enough interest, I will continue to plow forward. Your kind comments certainly encourage me. Thank you again!!!

I l-o-v-e the skort! It looks so neat and well put together...it just looks great! Do the pattern making thing; I think you would find great satisfaction in that venture.
