Emily Sews......

Emily is always wanting to sew. However, her machine is not always easily accessible. So this past weekend we tried to work on that little situation for her. As I've mentioned before, my machine is set up in a little corner in my bedroom, on a desk leftover from my college days. So there was no extra room there to accommodate her machine as well. We finally decided we would carve out a little spot for her in a corner of our den. There is a little sewing table there that holds my serger and Kenmore...however, I rarely use either of them. So I packed them up and moved them to the side and set up her machine for her. Now she has her own space to create in.

It did not take her long to pull out a pattern and get to work. She decided to make her 18" doll a long skirt that matches one I made her earlier in the year. She cut it out, pinned it and stitched it. I helped her with the elastic casing and that was it. I still worry about her little fingers and that big needle....but how else is she going to learn? I keep my eye on her....but she is very responsible. I can't wait to see all the items that will be created from her little cozy spot in the den!!

I know what you mean about little fingers. I am always watching Peach too. Likewise she is very responsible.

I am looking forward to having room for both of us to have our machines out.

That is just awesome. I love seeing children learning more traditional things in lieu of sitting in front of a TV watching cartoons or playing video games!

Merry Christmas

Thanks for all the sweet comments. Emily is really enjoying her sewing area...she has already spent another afternoon there creating a Christmas gift for her sister.

Wonderful! I love to hear other parents letting their kids do "real" stuff instead of "lets play sewing"--think what independence you are giving her!
