New Project.....

First off...thanks for all the lovely comments on my last post. I truly had SO MUCH FUN teaching that class on crocheted edgings. And to top it off, two of the sweet ladies contacted me this past week telling me they were purchasing the supplies needed to make more preemie-sized crocheted-edged bonnets. And one of these ladies is in her eighties, and I had the honor of teaching her to crochet that night. All the ladies in our smocking guild (SAGA) are so amazing!!!
Ok, now on to my new project. I actually did not sew or work on anything crafty for the last few days.....I was trying to catch up with house cleaning and such. Today, however, I decided to start something new. I have never before tried silk ribbon embroidery....but I always have wanted to. I planned ahead by ordering all the supplies needed a few weeks back. These sweet flowers (photo above) are what I worked on. I do have plans for this piece.....and hopefully it will go together quickly and easily. It sure goes a lot faster than using regular embroidery floss. And people have told me silk ribbon embroidery is very forgiving. I'll let you know my thoughts as I do more of it. It definitely was enjoyable....and I'm sure I'll be creating more projects with it. I don't know what took me so long to attempt silk ribbon embroidery...but I do know it was almost impossible to find supplies locally. I did find a few supplies at Hobby Lobby....after I had already ordered some on-line. If anyone has any tips for me.....feel free to send them. I have a few books that touch on silk ribbon embroidery and I borrowed one by Martha Pullen from my friend Paige that is really helpful. I find I usually do the best just by experimenting....which is what I did today!!

Pretty flowers, there! I used to do silk ribbon embroider back 15 years or so ago. I remember making flowers on a pair of cloth baby shoes for one of my babies, and being amazed at the compliments I received and the requests I had to make more for others' babies.

Once again, Cindy, you inspire me. I still have all my silk ribbon supplies....

Hmmm, I've always admired ribbon embroidery, but never tried it. It seems daunting to me to get that much stuff through a hole in the material. :o)
I made a sweet little rosebud dress for my friend's daughter yesterday using the "piping" method you described. It turned out ok, but I have an ancient sewing machine that doesn't like adjustments too well. Hence I'm not posting a picture of it, as it was a trial and error piece that she'll probably just use as a play dress. Great tutorial, by the way! Now that I've tried it, I made some notes for my machine that will help in the future. Thanks so much for the idea, Cindy.
Have a great week!

Ruth...thanks!!! If you pull your stuff out....I want to see what you come up with!! I bet your work is beautiful!!

Karen....strangely enough...it really is pretty easy. And as far as pulling the ribbon through the fabric...just use the correct size needle...I used a chenille #20...it worked great!! Glad you tried the scalloped piping...I want to see your next one!!!

Blakely....thanks!! It really is easy. Give it a try sometime!

Nell...thanks!! Actually the little blue dress with ecru crochet edging is made from Imperial Batiste. But I do love linen!!!
