Elisabeth's Heidi Dress......

I wanted to make Elisabeth a dress and include her monogram. And about that time I came across a pattern by Carla C Dolly Designs. The pattern is called "Simply Sweet Tops and Dresses" and is actually sold through youcanmakethis.com. Once the pattern is purchased you download it in an ebook format (pdf) directly to your computer. This pattern is amazing. It is so well thought out and has so many different variations. I know I'll be making many more...I already have two more planned for sure.

Anyway, I had a blue floral print that I wanted to use for the skirt and so I dug out this blue pique solid that was leftover from another outfit. You can't see it....but I lined the bodice in a light blue and white gingham. I like for the inside to look as good as the outside. I purchased the monogram font through embroideryfontshop.com. That was another fantastic experience...everything went so smoothly!!! I used green thread for the monogram to pick up some of the green from the floral skirt. Then of course, I added my trademark green gingham piping between the bodice and skirt. I really liked the dress/jumper as it was...but I thought it would benefit from adding something else....so I decided to make a peasant shirt to go underneath. This pattern is from an Australian Smocking and Embroidery magazine.

When I decided to make the peasant top I knew if I was making it white I would have to dress it up a little....so I added a sweet row of crochet edging around the sleeve edges. I love it.....so feminine!!! When Elisabeth tried it on.....she reminded me of Heidi. Fortunately she and Emily LOVE the Shirley Temple movie version of Heidi! So she really likes the dress too. She wore it all day yesterday! And considering it was over 90 degrees here.....that's saying something!!!

That sure is cute, Cindy! You've been so industrious lately. =0) Love the font. And also (so I don't have to go back and re-comment) the shirred sundress turned out adorable, too! I have thought about making one of those for Addie.

Cindy, the dress is lovely! Do you purchase a lot of your patterns online? So far I have only ever bought the standard patterns from the fabric store. I keep thinking I should branch out soon.

Guess what my girls did yesterday? They made their first little embroidery project. (I will post it on my blog soon). THey loved it!!

Katie...thanks! I'm spending most of my "free time" working on my SAGA class that is next week. But I always seem to feel the need to squeeze in additional projects here and there!!!

Cheryl...thanks!!! Did the pattern ever arrive?

Deborah...thanks!! No, I don't really buy that many patterns on-line. Mostly I purchase patterns that heirloom stores sell...like Children's Corner, Creations by Michie, Bonnie Blue, etc. I do have my fair share of McCalls, Simplicity, etc as well. My biggest beef with them is the 5/8" seam allowance. Once you construct a garment with 1/4" seam allowances (which I love!!) it's hard to go back to the larger seam allowances...for me anyway!!! I can't wait to see pics of your girls and their embroidery. I am glad that they enjoyed it!!!

Cindy,

Which AS&E issue has the little peasant top pattern in it?

Karen....it is issue # 81. The peasant top is actually part of an outfit called Heidi's Christmas (it has an adorable jumper pattern too....different than the jumper I made...but still very cute!)

Very sweet! Don't be offended, but encourage her to be Heidi for Halloween!! Very frugal! My daughter wanted a "Laura Ingalls" dress, so I [who do not really like to sew] made one. She wore it for Halloween and the other kids thought it was fabulous! One girl even read the books because of the dress--she thought they would be "boring" till then. So, who knows, maybe your daughter & her sweet dress will get someone to read something wonderful!
